7 simple steps to building a product everyone will love (even if they're difficult, drunk, or dumb):

1. Be Consistent

The most common fear in humanity is change.

Your design should be cohesive with simple navigation. Stick to a consistent layout without trying to reinvent the wheel.

Rely on common practices that users are already familiar with so they comprehend faster.

2. Be Unforgettable

Everyone should return to your product like they've never left. No matter how long they’ve been away.

Your product should get easier over time. The harder it is to re-learn your product, the more reason you give to leave for good.

3. Be User-focused

Design your product customer-first.

When you understand your customer and their needs, you create an amazing product that makes their lives better.

I always ask myself "Will this feature benefit users?" This filters out hundreds of bad ideas.

4. Be Easy to Learn

If your product comes with an extensive manual, you've lost me as a customer forever.

It needs to be intuitive to someone that's never seen the product before.

If you can't make it simpler, your onboarding process should be engaging.

5. Be Efficient to Use

I can't stand a product that makes me click constantly to do things.

Streamline your processes and eliminate unnecessary steps to make the product quick and efficient to use.

Be more afraid to add new features than to remove old ones.

6. Be Free of User Error

You test for bugs but you also need to test for human behavior.

Clear feedback and error messages should be provided. Design with possible user mistakes in mind and make it easy to recover from them.

User testing is very important here.

7. Be Satisfying to Experience

I will cancel my account and uninstall if a product is frustrating to use.

User experience doesn't need to be addicting or ooze dopamine to be good. Just be enjoyable so customers want to come back.

There's no excuse.
