Dada Secrets Ch. 2 of 5: The day my cofounders failed me.

How did I get here?

I sat in my living room with my cofounders and they were telling me that they were “letting me go” from the company I founded, it would all end here.. like this.

I had been blindly following ideas of long-term relationships with people I thought I trusted, only to find out the whole thing was a lie…

I had hired a team, fundraised, bought in investors, bought in over 150 “true believer” creators, generating over $1.5m from over 1000 collectors.

I had given my relationships, ideas, systems and IP to the company.

Didn’t they know what was about to happen?

It was Tuesday December 6th 2022.

It was the day I became unemployed and finally could begin to focus on myself and my interests.

My dad always said “you can either be an entrepreneur, work for him, or go to business school.”

This was my chance to meet the “real world.”

And as we quickly found out, it’s not very nice or forgiving.

Many people in web3 and tech in general were being laid off.

For most of the people who graduated with me, IF they were able to find jobs, they were managing entry-level jobs in consulting, banking, etc… making $80k to $120k a year…

Barely enough to cover the monthly payments for their student loans and afford life in NYC.

In New York City, $100,000 amounts to about $36,000 after taxes and adjusting for the cost-of-living.

So, when I looked at my former cofounders and saw them smiling and feeling relieved, at first I was confused…

Not for me, but for them…

Because for me, I knew what my next step was. Just one month earlier, I had stumbled on a cool way to take the things I was good at in my life and turn those things into a business.

This was a business that had help me get over 50k users and generate over $10k while in college and would go on to help me to achieve 10x growth in my twitter following just 2 months after being let go.
